Macular Degeneration

At Advanced Vision Care in Mansfield, Fort Worth, and DeSoto, Texas, and Cedar Hill Eye Care in Cedar Hill, Texas, our eye doctors can detect age-related macular degeneration and a range of other issues during a comprehensive eye exam. While there is no cure for age-related macular degeneration, detecting and treating it early can help reduce or even prevent vision loss.

What is age-related macular degeneration?

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a progressive eye condition that affects the macula, a part of the retina responsible for central vision. The macula is an oval-shaped area located in the back of the eye, and it helps us see sharp and detailed images. As we age, the macula can deteriorate, leading to vision loss. AMD is the leading cause of blindness among older adults and is more common in people over 50.

Diagnosing & treating age-related macular degeneration

During your routine eye exam, our eye doctor will evaluate your eye health and look for early warning signs of AMD and other eye conditions. If you’re diagnosed with AMD, our knowledgeable team will develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. Treatment options may include lifestyle changes, dietary supplements, anti-VEGF injections, or laser therapy.
